CAD Technician:

Department A&E

Reports To A&E Manager

Job Summary

  • Uses software to convert designs into technical drawings and plans.

 

General Accountabilities

  • Produces designs, working drawings, charts, forms and records using computer-aided design and drafting (CAD) software.

  • Works from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers and architects.

  • Modifies and revises designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.

  • Computes mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications.

  • Lays out and draws schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems and machines.

  • Coordinates with other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.

  • Checks dimensions of materials to be used and assigns numbers to the materials.

  • Reviews and analyzes specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.

  • Helps design products with engineering and manufacturing techniques.

  • Prepares designs for review by engineers and architects.

  • Specifies dimensions, materials, and procedures for new products.

  • Analyzes building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on architectural designs.

  • Designs scale or full-size blueprints.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2011 or newer.

  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

  • Ability to follow directions and willing to learn.

  • Must have a good business ethics, positive attitude, meets deadlines and is dependable.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, completing individual work task.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

  • 1-4 years of experience as an AutoCAD Draftsman, experience in Structural, Mechanical, or Architectural design is preferred.
